At Empire Barber School, our mission is to cultivate the next generation of skilled and professional barbers and barber instructors by providing comprehensive, hands-on education and training. Barbershop

Course Outline

Barber License – 1200 Clock Hours

Education Objective:

  • Arizona Barber License

Course Description:

  • Our Barbering Program offers a blend of theoretical and practical training, with an emphasis on hands-on experience. The theoretical component takes place in a classroom setting with lectures and demonstrations, while practical training takes place in our barbershop, where students provide barbering services to the public.

Course Goals:

  • Upon completion, graduates will possess the necessary skills and knowledge to pass the Arizona State Board of Barbers examination and secure employment in the barbering profession. Students will be proficient in all barbering services, including haircuts, styling, shaves, facials, and advanced design techniques.

Course Format/Instructional Methods:

  • The program is delivered in English through a variety of instructional methods, including lectures, demonstrations, visual aids, textbook reviews, practical work on live models under licensed supervision, and regular testing.

Grading:

  • Grades are awarded based on theoretical and practical evaluations, using a point system with the following scale:
    • 93% – 100% = A (Excellent)
    • 81% – 92% = B (Above Average)
    • 75% – 80% = C (Average/Satisfactory)
    • 0% – 74% = F (Unsatisfactory/Failing)
  • A passing grade is 75%, and clinic grades are assessed as satisfactory or unsatisfactory due to the hands-on nature of the work.

  • Hair Cutting/Hairstyling: 750 Hours
  • Hair Coloring/Permanent Waving: 100 Hours
  • Shaving/Honing/Stropping: 250 Hours
  • Massage/Facial/Shampooing: 75 Hours
  • Skin and Scalp Diseases: 75 Hours
  • Theory Instruction: 250 Hours
  • Health, Sanitation, & Infection Control: 50 Hours
  • Sciences (Bacteriology/Biology/Chemistry/Anatomy): 50 Hours
  • Histology of the Skin, Hair & Nails: 20 Hours
  • Diseases of the Skin, Hair & Glands: 25 Hours
  • Barber History: 25 Hours
  • Barber Law, State Rules, and Regulations: 20 Hours
  • Human Relations & Barber Ethics: 10 Hours
  • Business Management: 10 Hours
  • Career and Employment Techniques: 10 Hours
  • Shop Duties: 10 Hours
  • Review and Exams: 20 Hours
  • Total: 1200 Hours

Instructor Program – 350 Clock Hours

Education Objective:

  • Arizona Barber Instructor License

Course Description:

  • The Instructor Program is specifically designed for licensed barbers who aspire to teach. This 350-hour program covers essential teaching techniques, curriculum development, and classroom management. The course is delivered by the owner of Empire Barber School Jesse Rae, ensuring expert guidance and practical experience.

Course Goals:

  • Graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to pass the Arizona State Board of Barbers Instructor examination and begin a career in barbering education.

Course Format/Instructional Methods:

  • Instruction is conducted in English using lectures, demonstrations, visual aids, and practical teaching experience under supervision.

Grading:

  • Evaluations are conducted regularly with grades based on a 100-point scale. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass.

Cosmetology Crossover Program – 200 Clock Hours

Education Objective:

  • Arizona Barber License

Course Description:

  • The Cosmetology Crossover Program is designed for licensed cosmetologists transitioning to barbering. The program blends theoretical instruction with practical experience. Theoretical training is delivered through lectures and demonstrations in a classroom setting, while practical training occurs at the barber school, where students perform barbering services for the public.

Course Goals:

  • Graduates will acquire the skills and knowledge needed to pass the Arizona State Board of Barbers examination and begin employment in barbering. The program covers all essential barbering services, including haircuts, styling, shaves, facials, and advanced design techniques.

Course Format/Instructional Methods:

  • The course is conducted in English using a variety of educational methods, including lectures, demonstrations, visual aids, textbook reviews, practical work on live models under licensed supervision, and regular testing.

Grading:

Grades are based on both theoretical and practical evaluations, using a point system with the following scale:
